Principal’s Message
End of Term 2, 2021
Hello Everyone,
As Term 2 is coming to a close, I would like to thank you all for your support and involvement once again. We have a wonderful school with committed teachers and ES staff, a supportive parent community and focussed, caring students. Without extensive involvement from all parties, our school would not be able to function as well as it does! We thank you all for your work and efforts with your children during this term’s lockdown period too. I hope you are looking forward to being able to have a break with your children and enjoy time with your families.
I hope you will join me in thanking and congratulating the staff for another wonderful term of teaching, learning and dedication. Well done everyone!
I have been fortunate enough to have had two days long service leave for most weeks this semester. This has been possible as we are able to rely on the commitment and wonderful skills of Jane Brayshaw our AP at all times. I would like to acknowledge and thank Jane for this opportunity and her never ending support and work in our school. Thank you Jane.
A reminder that Student Reports were made available on uEducateUs on Wednesday afternoon. I hope you have had an opportunity to read them and celebrate with your child/children.
Thank you to all those families who have either made a donation or have been willing to join our Cadbury chocolate fundraiser. These funds are important to our school and students so we appreciate your efforts. A huge thank you to the Parents’ Association for organising this and to the members who have been diligently distributing the chocolates. Good luck with the sales everyone!
We have started preparation for Term 3 and are looking forward to many exciting learning experiences planned for the second semester of the year.
This term Morang South successfully continued our work on inquiry approaches in our classes to provide greater Student Voice and Agency in our learning programs. We have been working hard to implement these new approaches and have seen the children respond positively with greater ownership of the learning process in their units of study. We have started introducing students to ‘Solution Fluency’ and the 6 Ds of this problem solving process, being Define, Discover, Dream, Design, Deliver and Debrief. Our team had a very successful professional learning day working on these inquiry approaches earlier in the term. The next Curriculum Day has now been scheduled and will be on Thursday, August 5th.
Next term we continue our preparation for our school concert. The teachers will be working with the students throughout Term 3 in preparation for what will be no doubt a very entertaining evening. The auditions for the main cast have been undertaken and planning for various exciting scenes is well underway. We are currently confirming final details of the new location for the concert as we have recently been informed that the local Whittlesea PRACC will unfortunately not be available.
I have written before about resilience and supporting children to put life’s challenges in perspective. With the ongoing impacts of the pandemic utilising mental health strategies to support all family members wellbeing has become even more relevant and important. I encourage all families to utilise the various resources available to support their children and family members during this time. Below I have listed two supportive resources which you may find helpful.

We are now taking enrolments for our 2022 Prep classes. Please inform family, friends and neighbours that if they have a child starting school next year and would like them to come to our school to enrol them soon. We also hope that further restrictions are lifted next term so that we can resume our school tours. It is important that children are enrolled by the end of Term 3 so that they can participate in our excellent Prep Orientation Program in Term 4.
Keep up that life-long learning.
Stay safe!
Julie
